sent to five members of the Board of Sponsors of a meeting of the 
American Society of Anesthesiologists in San Francisco last 
October.]

                                                  December 16, 1988

     While in San Francisco attending the American Society of Anes-
thesiologists meeting this past October, I stopped by the PHYSICIANS 
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY booth and picked up some literature.
     What I read in the NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE disturbed me, 
so I went back and reread DOCTORS AGAINST HEALTH to see if my memory 
had failed. A copy is enclosed.
     Then I was really perplexed when I saw your name listed on the 
Board of Sponsors along with Helen Caldicott, Phil Lee, and Bernie 
Lown.
     Please set me straight.
